Hello Louisville

Hello Louisville

I have to admit: I'm new in town. My wife brought me here five years ago, and I recently noticed that I haven't done much here yet. Sure, I have some favorite places to go on a date night, and it is not that easy to explore a new city while working full time, but I still feel I could've explored more. I also noticed something else: while I am running through my routine, I consume the adventures of people online rather than making my own memories here in Louisville.

I think that's weird. The most fun (and most important) part of my life is making memories outside of my job, but I outsource that task to strangers online. Of course, Louisville isn't Hawaii, and the things I can see online are objectively more exciting ... but that's exactly the problem with the role of social media in my life:

Other people have more exciting lives. They travel to 5* hotels in faraway countries I've never been to, drive classic cars I cannot afford on road trips I don't have the time for, and set up woodworking shops in their garage my wife would kill me for. They also perfected the art of telling stories, and YouTube's algorithm knows exactly what I want to see. As a result, I spent endless hours consuming rather than living.

Did you know that an 18-year-old is expected to spend 93% of his free time in life staring at a screen? I'm not sure about you, but I think that's quite depressing.

A graphic visualizing how an 18 year old will spend the time of his life. It is shown, that he'll spend 93% of his free time, which is time outside of sleep, work, and chores, looking at screens.

I want to change that. I'll start prioritizing spending my time on making memories - the adventures I can tell my grandkids about. Because "well, I used to watch a lot of videos" is not an incredible life story.

A simple local adventure, experienced by me, is worth more than any incredile tale lived by others.

How it will work.

Every other Thursday, I'll send a newsletter featuring random adventures and experiences to do around Louisville, as well as thoughts on living a meaningful life beyond social media.

By doing so, I hope to create great memories in my life and enable you to do the same. If you haven't already, you can sign up to receive an update every two weeks here:
